All of these intsruments you play but you don't do the drums, why?

That is a good one mate!I do play the drums and actually own a double bass drum set.In the studio though I want a master musician sittng in that seat.I could do an okay job after a ton of edits,no forget that,I am going to book a certified kick ass drummer to come in.I cannot stand and will not work with a drum machine.Rehearsals are done with a metronome but we do not use a click in the studio. It is too distracting. The footer line is going right down the center, the highway is laid down first...and then here come "The Hotrods" as they fly down the road they may have to veer somewhat this way or that. They are traveling at very high speed you see...yet they must have the highway to roll down.So I have made sure that in that drummer's chair at all times is a pro.I seek them out and book them.the fact that they are different people all the time is to my advantage.Every tune has a different feel and approach. All of them are "Big Dogs" when they come in they know what to do and what I am expecting. And it IS rehearsed, well one exception,"I Really Want To be With You" was totally built from the compostion in the studio.A lot of film is shot of it.And the drum part was very demanding,it was a dot ahead with the quarter note pushed to the max,it almost sounds swing. All that I had going in was the acoustic demos. It was created them and there. That is Chris Valentino on drums with Doug Matthews on bass.We spent one day as "The Greatest Rock And Roll Band In The world."Oh man did we play loud too..I did do the charts from the demo's mostly to notate the rests. To listen to it you would think we had been on the road together for a couple of years,At that time I did not have a band yet did have a film crew.Backlighting and all. They were a;ways up for the hunt. And I was about the camera also.Just as much as the music because I knew, this may be all you are going to get.And if it is..so be that.YOU missed it,not me.
