I had the enormous honor of being able to back up "Billy Shears." ("CLOSER AND CLOSER")THE VOCAL TRACK IS NOT A COMPOSITE, IT IS A THIRD TAKE FULL LIVE RUN.Normally I am the lead singer but not always. He had done two takes after rehearsal runs and they were great yet in the coda he was holding back a little.I flipped on my talkback and said "Billy throw in a little scat in the coda" and take three was done.We were all weeping in the studio. He smiled and said "well I guess we all felt something today."No pitch correction...none of that, that program is very useful here and there so spairingly...I tiny little sweep of icing on top of a beautiful cake.Once you start manipulation on a vocal track with that in digital recording a blup is going to come up elsewhere on the recording, maybe the snare drum track and you have to search for and find that.It is just like digital film editing. And it is a wonderful tool.you have to know when and where to use it or your recording is in the dumper as it where. You can easily tell who is depending on it.
